Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the winners with their tiaras.
Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (ÂŁ44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
